Daddy Daughter Time

Once again, it's Girl Scout cookie sales time. I'm not too fond of selling things to people we know and love (nor to strangers for that matter), but the cookies seem to really "sell themselves". Anyway, since this isn't my favorite activity, Dad usually does all the leg work helping Julia reach her sales goal. This year, her goal was to sell 1,000 boxes....yes, 1,000 boxes!!!!!!!! (Keep in mind that the goal for all 7 girls in her troop was to sell 350 boxes collectively.) She has one week in which to complete all her pre-sale orders. As you can imagine, with a goal like Julia's, she must work very hard to sell all those cookies. She and Dad usually pound the pavement, knocking on door after door. Usually, she sells one or two boxes at about every third door....sometimes, however, she "hits the jackpot" and sells 36 boxes at one door! (Crazy, right? Who can....let me rephrase....who SHOULD eat 36 boxes of Girl Scout cookies.....not to mention the cost of $4 per box!?!?!?)
Anyway, she and Dad worked from about 9:30am until the evening for two Saturdays, and the MLK holiday (last Monday) peddling her treats. One guy we ran into in a neighborhood actually accused me of being the cab driver for the "devil" himself. He said that "those cookies would be the downfall of [his] New Year's resolution" and that she was selling "evil in a box". In all actuality, we heard that alot. It's hard to sell cookies in January....especially only two weeks after everyone just promised themselves to eat better, exercise....all those things we do on January 1st. Julia can usually make a sale despite their resolutions because she's quick to point out that the cookies don't arrive until mid-late February. By then, those resolution-makers will have given up! (Most of them anyway.) Here is a picture of the cookie sellers.
This is a video of how Julia greets her dad after each visit to a door. (assuming they have a "ride-worthy" driveway). Julia is announcing that "this is the Super Daddy Swing of Girl Scouts!"

And, for an update on her sales goal: As of today, she has sold 975 boxes of cookies! Good job Julia! She will reach her goal as soon as her troop has booth sales in a few weeks. Last year she sold cookies with her troop outside two local grocery stores which adds to her total. She's really excited about her prizes which include: a dive-in movie (swimming and a movie), an i-Pod shuffle, Heely's, Girl Scout road trip (last year she went to Wild Waves near Seattle), a special patch, t-shirt, stuffed animals, and hundreds of cookie credits to spend on camps, and sever other trinkets. She's a really hard worker. My job will be helping her to deliver all 975 boxes in February. It ought to take three weeks and more than one load in our Odyssey. It's only the calm before the "storm".

Oi! How does one sell 975 boxes? That's amazing! We haven't jumped on the Girl Scout program. It isn't all that big out here. There are troops, but....maybe I just haven't looked into it 'cause I never got into it. Anyway, I don't envy your delivery duties. Good luck with all of that. If you lived closer we would have purchased from you...as is, we usually wait for them to show up at the booth outside the grocery store.

Cute picture and cute video! Good for her for making her goal. That is amazing. I heard GS cookies freeze really well (although I probably heard that from you), so that's another thing she could tell people. They freeze well, so this box can last you all year and you can still stick to your diet. :)

Good job Julia!! You're such a good mom. We have over 75 boxes and I told Macy that's it....no more. I can't handle the responsibility, money and time. Needless to say, they'll never put me in charge, lol!

Good luck to you!!
let us know what the final count is!
