Eagle Creek Revisited

Jourdan and Jonathan had previously hiked the Eagle Creek Trail in the Columbia Gorge while working on the backpacking merit badge.  This time, they hiked the trail with the whole family (without all that backpacking gear) for the hiking merit badge.
It was a hot, humid day in the Gorge, so hiking was challenging for some of us.  Julia created games to play as she hiked along to keep her mind off how hot and tired she was feeling.
We stopped about half way up the trail to soak our aching feet in the cold stream.  It was hard to walk away from the cool, relaxing stream and hit the trail again.
The kids at the top of a waterfall:
We made it all the way to Tunnel Falls (12 miles round trip).  The tunnel that passes behind the falls is behind us.  It was probably an easier hike for the boys without all the gear on their backs, but it was challenging for Julia and mom.  The trail is not smooth; it's rocky, uneven, and full of tree roots.  It was hard and downright dangerous to take our eyes off the trail.

"So you went to the top of THAT waterfall? Looks like a nice but challenging hike. I was thinking this morning about when I climbed the 14ers here in Colorado. I am definitely not in shape to do it now. Sad:(
