Julia got to participate in the Gymkahna event as part of the Grand County Fair while we were visiting Uncle Joel in central Washington. Her cousin Makayla was nice enough to share her horse Raz with Julia. Not only did she share her horse, but she lead Julia around the arena during the events because Julia does not know how to "ride" a horse by herself yet. After two events, Makayla passed the reigns (literally) to big brother Seth, who led Julia and Raz around for the barrel races.
Julia actually ended up winning the Candy Bar race which involved riding the horse across the arena to grab a candy bar, dismounting from the horse, and running back across the arena. She was quick, even in boots. Can you tell how exciting it was to not only win a candy bar, but a trophy?
Both girls won a total of three awards each. Not bad for Julia's first Gymkhana. Way to go Hale girls!
Julia decided to ride Raz bareback the next day from the corral to the back yard. The girls then washed the horse and got her ready for the fair events later that day. We went home shortly after that, much to Julia's dismay. She would have loved to spend another week, or the rest of the summer!
She went with Makayla every day to help collect the eggs. She and Makayla both were afraid of the white rooster. That rooster knew he was the boss, and made sure to let the girls know it! We all had a great time visiting with Joel, Renee, and kids.
