Yep, that's pretty much what I think about this holiday!
I LOVE everything about fall. I love the weather, the colorful leaves, pumpkins, corn stalks, hay rides, hot cocoa....the list can go on and on. I DO NOT LIKE dressing up (as an adult) for any reason. If there's a party that involves me dressing up....count me out. I also hate the whole idea of scary, bloody, half or completely dead things, haunted houses, severed body parts, smashing of pumpkins, etc.
My kids like the "candy" part of the holiday, and who can blame them, really? For that reason alone, I am willing to let them do minor amounts of trick-or-treating. Julia likes to dress up, but I have a firm rule that she choose "happy" costumes. There are no creepy, night of the living dead-type costumes at our house. I am happy that (at least recently) we have not had haunted houses at church parties....there is something inherently wrong with that to me. Of all places to reenact death coming back to life, people think of the church building? Seriously!
So, last year when my daughter suggested carving our pumpkin like this, I thought it summed up how I feel about MOST Halloween activities perfectly.
I am thankful that this year's events are falling on Sunday, so I don't have to answer the door for kids dressed in creepish costumes and fake blood. I'm all about the little princesses and forest animals enjoying candy and other fun parts of the holiday. For what it's worth....happy Halloween....or enjoy your Candy Day!

LOVE IT LOVE IT!!! I TOTALLY agree with all that you said. The pumpkin is AWESOME, too! If you have 20 minutes to kill, you should go to my blog and then find my mom's blog on my blogroll (it's called The Write Stuff) and she just wrote this whole huge long post about being a Halloween Scrooge. (You can check out my wickedly long comments to her post, too.) It's nice to not be alone in feeling like the church is not an appropriate place for fright, gore, and faithless death. (Our Halloween party is tonight and many of the YM decided to paint their faces and come as zombies...)
so funny! we did a pumkin like that last year its so gross but I love halloween the holliday where you can eat chocolate till your sick....oh wait I do that every night!
