Although we're not big celebraters of ANY holidays, we do have some traditions that happen due to others' desire to celebrate things. We try and make it downtown to see the fireworks that are a traditional part of the Cinco de Mayo celebration in Portland. You might think the fireworks would be on the evening of the 5th; but, no, they are always on the Friday night of the carnival/festival. This year we watched with Jonathan's brother, Joel, his wife Renee, and their daughter Makayla. We usually stand on the Morrison Bridge over the Wilamete and watch the fireworks launch from the barge beneath us. This year, we viewed the display from the East Bank Esplanade...just as good (especially when it's raining - you're closer to your transportation) - plus, the city makes a nice back-drop for the fireworks.
The weather cooperated, and we enjoyed a nice 20 minute show. Of all the things in my life that say "Made in China", I have to say that fireworks are on the top of my list of favorites.
