Manicures and Mud

As one of Julia's prizes for her excellent Girl Scout cookie sales, she won a trip to a day spa with the local CEO of Girl Scouts.  Unfortunately, we were out of town for the event that happened in Portland, so we had to attend the one in Eugene (which is 2 hours away).  So, last Saturday, Julia and I hit the road and headed to Eugene.  She met the other 7 girls that also earned that prize at the day spa.  They got their hair done:

And their nails done:
Julia chose to have hers painted orange with black sparkly crackle finish on top.  Looks a little like Halloween, but she's a huge fan of orange, so I guess it works.  (Sorry about the blurry pictures, Julia took them all on her i-pod.)
After the spa, the girls got a 2 1/2 hour limo ride to see the "sights" around Eugene.  If you're like me, you're thining...How in the world can there be 2 1/2 hours of things to see in Eugene?  Apparenly, the organizers discovered the same thing that day.

Mothers were not invited to attend the spa day trip, which was no big deal for the other moms because they all lived nearby, so they just went home after dropping off their daughters for the noon to 6pm event.  I, on the other hand, had to figure out how to entertain myself for 6 hours.  I managed, but it was difficult (especially with my 10 minute attention span).

While Julia and I were in Eugene, Jourdan was attending his second archaeology dig at Fort Vancouver.  A few boys from his scout troop were invited to attend this series of classes to earn their archaeology merit badges.  This is a difficult one to earn because one of the requirements is to spend 8 hours digging and researching with an archaeologist....that seems like a challenge.  Anyway, he has spent 6 hours sifting through artifacts.

I've always thought it would be fun to be an archaeologist....maybe I'll go with him next time and give it a try.  Both events were fun for the kids.

I have no idea what I would do for 6 hours in Eugene, either! Snoozer. I hope the 2 1/2 hour limo ride to "see" Eugene wasn't too bad. Cute hair & nails! Looks like she had a lot of fun. I think the archaeology MB would be AWESOME! Time-consuming, yes, but so fun! Really cool.

My secret dream trip has always been to go on a real dig. Maybe Jourdan and I can find another King Tut tomb or something.

Looks like fun. Doesn't Eugene have a mall or a bookstore? Give me 6 hours in a Barnes and Nobles (since Boarders is no longer an option) without kids pulling me in multiple directions, and I'm a happy girl. Bliss.
I was happy to see Jourdan in a t-shirt...no buttons. :) Was it part of a uniform? Did all the kids get to wear the same brown t-shirt? He looked COMFY and he looked like he had a good time.

Shannon - That is Jourdan's Class B uniform....we forbade him from wearing his Class A uniform on the "dig". Otherwise, he would have been in a button-down, collared shirt because that is his uniform for life!
