The Mud Puddle (aka The Pumpkin Patch)

Today we took Grandma and Grandpa to The Pumpkin Patch (clever name, huh?) on Sauvie Island.  It is a tradition to visit this particular farm every fall, but we missed it last year due to Jourdan's Eagle Scout Project, and all the errands that went along with that.  This year, the clouds were thick, and the air was crisp.  That part of the "adventure" we were prepared for....
We spent about an hour hunting all over the patch and gathering all our favorites together for a final selection process.  (It's hard to make a choice if the pumpkins are spread all over the field.)

The thing we weren't prepared for was THIS.....

Although, with all the rain we've had in the last two weeks, we really shouldn't have been so surprised....but we were. It was hard to tromp through the mud carrying our 45 and 50 pound pumpkins on our shoulders (without slipping and landing on our behinds in this muck), but we all managed.  Our clothes didn't fair as well as the pumpkins!
SOME of us wore boots....SOME of us brought extra shoes for after the pumpkin patch.....SOME of us did not!  I'll let you think about that scenario....let's just say it was split at 50%.  These are our two pumpkins for 2011.
It took me two hours to clean up the boots, shoes, car, car mats, and pumpkins once we got home.  This was no ordinary mud.  It had caked into our shoes and wheel wells so thick, it was near impossible to rinse off.  It took a bit of scrubbing to finally make THIS go away....

It was fun anyway.  Maybe we should go earlier next year?  Yah, you think!

Love it! We went last year...and we also went to Bizi Farms. Loved 'em both. We don't have ANYTHING like that out this direction. Sad.

I love the pumpkins and the pictures, but the mud.... EW!!! That is one of the things that has always deterred me from pumpkin hunting. (Sad, but true.) You chose well, too! And the picture with Jourdan's arm around your mom.... he's as tall as she is now!!! Crazy.

Here's the primary difference between the two of us: that gross, cakey mud would still be on the pumpkins, on the boots and caked all over the car mats. You're a much better person than I am!
