First Freshman Concert

Jourdan is now in High School (Yes, I know that makes me "old"; believe me, I feel it!)  We went to his first choir concert on October 24.  He's in the "Thunder Men's Chorus" at school.  He also auditioned for, and was accepted into the District Honor Choir.  According to the director, it's quite an honor to get into this elite choir, but even more so to get into the Honor Choir as a freshman.  We're really proud of him.
*This post is especially for Grandma and Grandpa Hale who live way too far away to see Jourdan sing in person.  So, if anyone else still reads my blog (besides the three people I know of) don't feel obligated to listen to all the songs.
The first song is called "Viva La Compagnie".  Jourdan can be clearly seen walking up to the stage, but he's shortly covered by the chorus line-like grouping of dudes in front of him.  He IS singing in the background...you'll have to trust me, and use your imagination on this one.

The second song they sang was called "Jerusalem Morning".  Jourdan surprised us (again*) with another solo.  This solo is tiny, but you can hear him at the 1:16 time mark.  It's hard to understand due to the laughter, but he sings, "Get your long, white robe, and your starry crown, and be ready when the great day comes."  Also, no matter WHERE I sit at these events, the choir directors always have an uncanny way of blocking my children from the view of my camera lens.  She steps to the side (so that Jourdan can be seen from the OTHER side of the room....not realizing that the people who know and care who he is CAN'T see him anymore....aaarrrggh!) and gets right in my shot.
By the way, if the last time you heard Jourdan sing was during a concert video from last year; try not to be shocked.  Last fall, his voice was in between first and second soprano...this year, he's a baritone/bass 1.  Crazy, I tell you!!!

*Jourdan also had a solo in his first concert in 6th grade.  He had an entire verse of "Amazing Grace" during that concert and didn't mention it to us until we were on our way to the concert.  This time he didn't say a word, I almost didn't realize that he was singing.  Good thing I kept a steady hand while filming.  His teacher told him, this time, to keep it a surprise....did I mention I'm not a fan of such surprises?
The third song is titled "Set Me As A Seal".

The last song is the Johnny Cash classic "Sixteen Tons".  Who knew I would be raising a Johnny Cash fan?  Although, my brother is a huge fan, so maybe it's in the DNA...or maybe he was impressed with Mr. Cash's music when we took him to the Broadway show "Million Dollar Quartet" last May.  Either way, he (not unlike my brother) walks around the house singing in his deepest voice possible on a regular occasion.

His next concert is Saturday.  I hope to post the video from the District Honor Choir soon.  And, I really cannot say enough how thankful I am that my kids don't love to play outdoor soccer in the soggy Northwest.  I would support them as a soccer mom...I really would...but I prefer choir, musical theater, and indoor sports.  (Just sayin"..........)

Wow!! They're so good! I know what you mean about always sitting in the wrong place--that happens to me all the time. ARG!! I'm glad he is doing so well and having such a good time with it. He's got a great voice, as you know!

We love that you send the concerts. We both sat and listened and enjoyed and I could see Jourdan very well in some of them and certainly could recognize his LOW voice in his solo.
Thanks so much.
