I obsess about many things (as many of you are already aware), but the lights on my Christmas tree, possibly tops the list. Usually I manage to put around 2,000 lights on an average 7 foot tree....this year, I out-did myself and destroyed all previous records for lights on a single tree.
As you can see, this is a normal 7 1/2 foot tree, and it's rather "skinny" (not full and wide as have been trees in the past). All this being considered, it's amazing to think that I managed to get 3,050 lights on the tree.
I won't even get into how long it took to do this (because I will never hear the end of it - and how I need to get a life). I will say that it took 8 hours to remove all the old lights because each light was clipped in with 2 clips. Needless to say, when I re-used those clips to hold my own lights in place, I ran out,,,and I didn't even use 2 per light. Here's a close-up of a small area of the tree.
Although the tediousness of this task almost drove me to commit myself, I am thrilled with the glowing results. If any of the 31 strands on the tree should go out, I'm sure you ALL will hear the screams of frustration that will follow! The good news is that, for the first time, I should (cross our fingers) be able to put the tree away with all the lights on so as to not have to repeat this process (at least to this extent) next year.
Merry Christmas! Hope yours is as bright as ours!

Good Grief! I'm pretty sure I can see your tree from our back yard...at least the glowing beam of light shooting up into the sky anyway. LOVE IT! Wish I could get my husband to agree to 5 strands of light instead of our skimpy 3...and that is compromise. If he had his way, we would only have 1 strand...2 at most. I'm jealous. Can't wait to see all the glowing glory in person. And, please tell me those are decoration presents under your tree...not the REAL ONES. Maybe in a few years my children will be hold enough to resist such temptation.
That is an awesome thing to be obsessed with. The tree looks great and I love the title of your post! But you know, you may not need to even turn on your overhead lights now, so it may be a wash in terms of electrical consumption. :)
Wow! That does sound like a ton of work, but it is very beautiful with all those lights!
Shannon - those ARE the real Christmas presents under the tree. My kids are used to having to withstand temptation. One year, they waited a few days to open everything so Grandma and Grandpa could be there for the "grand opening" of gifts.
I could never do that, but I always LOVE how your tree looks!!!! Every year!! It looks SO fantastic!!
Amazing!!!! Will you come do my trees??
