On Wednesday night, Jourdan had his Eagle Scout Board of Review. He has been looking forward to this moment since he finished his project early in October. He was prepared (as well as one can prepare for such things) but he was still nervous. So nervous, in fact, that he was literally shaking in his boots! It's a good thing he was actually wearing BOOTS because it wouldn't have been nearly as funny to say that he was shaking in his sneakers.
His Eagle Board consisted of 5 members (one chosen by Jourdan) who asked him a series of questions about his project, his thoughts about Scouting, and about himself. He was in with the Board for 55 minutes talking about these things. He was asked the "dreaded" question about his age....some people believe that age 12 is too young....but the Eagle Board specifically noted to us that he is the most mature 12 year old that they have met. This question did make him nervous, but he answered the question with emotion and reminded the board that there are no *age* requirements, and that he had fulfilled all of the requirements for an Eagle Scout. He must have done well because they recommended him for the Eagle Scout award. Now he just has to sit back and wait for the paperwork to return from the national office. The Columiba Gorge District Advancement Chair said that Jourdan is the youngest Eagle he's seen in the district since he became the chair in 2004. We are so glad that he was able to represent himself well and explain his thoughts the way he wanted to. Great job Jourdan!
While Jourdan was having his Eagle Board of review, Julia was attending a party/recognition night for top Girl Scout cookie sellers. It was so nice of Grandpa R. to take her because Mom and Dad were both occupied with the Board of Review. Just in case you missed the total, she sold 2,111 boxes of cookies this year. She is the top seller in SW Washington, and is in the top few (only 11 girls sold 2,011 or more boxes) in the council which includes Oregon and Southwest Washington. We weren't able to narrow the lady at the GS office down to the actual numbers, but she *thinks* someone may have out-sold Julia.... this leads us to believe she was 2nd...but she's not sure about total numbers. Really? How hard would it be to figure that out? Whatever! Julia is just happy that she's going to get her trip to Great Wolf Lodge, personal TV/DVD player, and 32 MB i-pod touch. Here is a picture Grandpa took of her getting her award. (Yes, someone walked right in front of the camera -figures!)

Congratulations, Jourdan!! Way to go!! Anybody who knows him wouldn't be surprised that he did well in the board of review. He is mature, articulate, and bright. I'm sure he knocked their socks off.
Congratulations to BOTH! Well done! That's a lot of hard work and certainly something to be proud of. Way to go!
