Snow in Denver

The kids and I flew into Denver on Tuesday night....and THIS is what happened on Wednesday evening:
And...this is after shoveling the first 5 inches off the walks.  It snowed all night.  By the time the kids woke up in the morning, there was over a foot of snow in Grandma's yard.  To some, that may not be eventful; but to these kids (from the land of rain, not snow), it was a winter wonderland.  Julia immediately got all her snow gear on and went to work creating a snow fort:
And a snowman:
The snowman only looks deformed because it snowed on him after he was created.  He stood guard in the front yard for the remainder of our trip.  (Who knows how long he lasted after that?  Maybe Grandma will tell us when she reads this post.)
If I got to write the lyrics to my own version of "My Favorite Things", snow atop trees of all kinds would definitely make the list (as would Diet Coke, clean sheets, and new boxes of crayons).
Jourdan had been hoping for snow because he had a PLAN.  He wanted to earn money for the 4 (yes, FOUR) scout camps he is planning on attending this summer; so he prayed for snow so he could shovel walkways.  Thank heavens for his cousin Seth, who made the work go much faster.  Julia and I helped him with a driveway on Thursday night.
Although the snow was beautiful to look at, it was certainly a lot of work to clear it all.  Not to mention, the lack of traction devices on our rental cars.  (And the fact that side streets are not plowed, AND the snow never melted, AND the 6 inches of ice underneath the snow in the street.)  Let's just say we had a few exciting moments navigating the neighborhood roadways....some more intentional than others.

I'm so glad they had a good time with it!! We got our first significant snowfall this week, too, and my kids had fun sledding on it yesterday. I wish Belinda & Julia could play together!! (Seriously, if you could send her out here for a month in the summer, it might help with a lot of the issues we have going on here...) I hope Jourdan made some money, too!

A lot of that snow is STILL ice on the street in front of the house. Very dangerous to walk on when entering and exiting the car. Sadly, Mr. Snowman melted on one of our 60ish days:(.
