Cookies Galore

Well, cookie season finally ended.  But, I replaced that craziness with even more craziness...so, I am quite a bit behind in keeping the family blog up to date.  I'll try and play catch-up now, and see if I can not let myself get so far behind.
This season, Julia reduced her cookie-selling goal quite drastically because she has so many other events that occupy her time.  She plays basketball 2 nights a week with a game on the weekend and was on the bowling league during cookie season this winter.  She ended up selling 1,000 boxes of cookies this year.  That's the number she sold on her own...we are still waiting to hear how many the troop sold that she will get a portion of sales credit for.
As in years past, the cookies completely filled our van.  That was a fun adventure, in and of itself.  When we went to pick up our cookies, we couldn't find our order...that's because our order had been placed in someone else's car at the warehouse.  It's funny how that mom could have mistaken our order of over 1,500 boxes for her order of 600 boxes....but, I'M not going to judge.  Anyway, we removed the cookies from her van and loaded them into ours (thoroughly counting twice before signing the paperwork).
Our garage was a "staging area" for a couple of days, but she had all her pre-sales delivered quickly.
Her troop took all the boxes that were donated to the Portland Veteran's Hospital to share with the veterans.  Julia was responsible for choosing the recipients this year because she chose to make a donation to veterans.  We went last Tuesday (April 9) to deliver them to the hospital and take a tour.

And, now that that's finished, I have been asked to chair a committee for Jourdan's school production of Oklahoma for advertisement sales.  Over the last 6 weeks, I have spent all my spare time selling ads, designing ads, and answering endless questions from local businesses who have placed ads in the program for the spring musical.  (So, basically, I went from selling yummy cookies to advertising space...)  It's proven to be a 30+ hour a week job.  Add to that, teaching school 3-4 days a week, getting kids to practices, performances, and rehearsals, and early, early morning seminary (5:30am) and gym...you see why I feel like a nice long vacation is in order.  (I forgot to mention that I was recently called as the building scheduler at church - I get to coordinate activities for 3 congregations who share one church building - in case you're not familiar with that job.)  Once the program is finalized this week, I should be able to move on to the next project - photographing and scrapbooking the play for Jourdan, so he can have friends sign it for him.

Guess you guys don't know what "Taking life easy" means. Anyway, it is great to be active and involved in the community and there is no better education for your kids than the many great school, church, and community projects in which they participate. Congratulations on your cookies sales, Julia. Wish we could see you in Oklahoma, Jourdan. "Break a leg."

Yeah! WOW!!! I love seeing the cookie pictures every year--in the van and Julia standing next to them. Gives you the right perspective to appreciate how many that really is!
