Polynesian Cultural Center

On Friday, we went to the Polynesian Cultural Center for the day. The kids enjoyed touring all the different island cultures that are represented there. Julia learned how to throw a spear in Tonga. Jourdan learned how to weave a fish in Tonga as well. Jonathan joined in a Maori welcoming dance...it looked too scary to me! (Hopefully there will be a video at the end of this post.) Jonathan is in the second row in the same red shirt as the photo below. We attended the luau at the PCC as well as the night show called "Ha, Breath of Life". At the luau, Dad decided to buy everyone smoothies (served in a pineapple); consensus is that they are delicious! Jourdan ate purple rolls that were made from taro root. (This wouldn't be noteworthy unless you know about Jourdan's picky eating habits!) Julia tried kalua pig, although after seeing it removed from the ground, she wasn't too happy about eating it. The night show was fun and full of music and excitement...and fire dancing. Enjoy the pictures below...and hopefully a video. (I've been having issues with loading videos to blogger lately.)

Fire juggling is cool, huh? I really liked it. It looked really hard. I don't think I could ever do that. :)

So cool!! We had taro rolls, too. They were pretty good. I am laughing because I recognize the guy at the far end in the Maori dance--he was there when we were. I only remember him because when I looked at him I thought, "This guy looks like he should be on the high council." He looked kind of out of place. Anyway.... the spear throwing was one of our favorites, too. And OF COURSE the fire dancers!!!!!
